My spiritual quest was motivated by a wild curiosity and a desperate attempt to rectify the religious indoctrination and abuse I endured as a child. Along the path, my suspicions about the “meta” physical dimension continued to point to the natural world. I found in the New Age and Christian community an epidemic of adult children bypassing their inner work for spiritual delusions.
As a seeker who adamantly demanded the truth, time after time, metaphysical and religious narratives fell short of explaining reality. But I was sure there was something to the legacy of spiritual experience. I had a growing sense that enlightenment wasn’t about a state of perpetual happiness but an awakening to our deepest self. It involved the process of deconstruction and reconstruction rather than escaping into New Age and Christian ideologies. These fantasies dissociate the seeker rather than ground them in reality.
From a genetic, bio-spiritual perspective, all spiritual phenomenon is produced from the human organism and rooted in evolutionary processes. Out-of-body experiences become inner-body experiences, gods, goddesses, spirits, demons, phantoms, and other-worldly dimensions become internal projections from a subjective ecosystem. As my doubts grew, I figured any idea worth hanging my hat on should stand the rigors of inquiry. Thus, I challenged New Age and religious beliefs to see what they were made of. This scrutiny just as rigorously applied to personal beliefs about family, relationships, work, and play, which led me to the Focusing Method and critical thinking as a twin path for introspection and clarity.
This relentless search led me to a “human awakening,” which removed me from the endless ascension/enlightenment treadmill and permitted me to be a spiritual/human animal. I now redefine the spiritual experience from a natural perspective free from faith and superstition. When humans dissociate from the body, they get caught up in "concepts" and spiritually bypass their psychological shadow.
I like to use the term “Bio-Spirituality” because it more accurately defines the subjective domain. Our ancestral memories call us from the depths of the unconscious to return to our roots and regain the hidden realm we have abandoned through generational trauma. This is the key to our inner evolution.
